What Qualifications do I need to join DBYT?

None! The Youth Theatre welcomes young people with all abilities. The only criteria for joining the group is commitment and enthusiasm.

What can I expect from the workshops?

The normal weekly workshops run for 1 hour 30 minutes. These drama sessions are very much about self development, self expression and confidence building. Through improvisation we aim to develop stage skills and technique, and work on voice production. Everyone in the group is given equal opportunities to develop their own individual skills. Performance is not the main criteria of this group. However when we do perform, the work is devised and created entirely by the group members, and finally written by Di. This gives the actors a chance to work comfortably within their own capabilities. As members become more experienced and confident, we encourage them to take greater risks, thus stretching them as performers and allowing them to reach their potential. The members are encouraged to build up new, and positive friendships through this unique and inspirational drama process. Most importantly we aim to have FUN during these sessions.

TRINITY GUILDHALL EXAM CLASSES :
For many years we have been running 'Trinity Guildhall' classes. Similar, and with as much recognition as LAMDA, Di ensures that these classes are great fun. To date we have 100% distinctions and merits - amazing results that add points on UCAS forms!

I love acting, but I'm really shy

No problem. That's why we're here. We'll help you to develop your skills whilst giving you the tools to build your confidence during the process. Many of our greatest actors will admit that they were, and sometimes still are, very insecure people underneath.

CHANGES DUE TO COVID-19

At present all our normal classes are being run online - Zoom.

They are still enormous fun and there is loads of potential for making new friends.

We are now running distanced 'Face to Face' private and paired Audition and confidence building classes at Ashley Green, with all the safety measures in place.

Public Performances

Although performances are not the main criteria of the Youth Theatre, each group usually puts on a main public performance once a year.

What else?
All our members are encouraged to take some responsibility during workshops, rehearsals and performance. ie taking over roles at short notice, designing programmes, helping with props and stage management, being responsible for costumes etc.
